A.N.D.E.S. at medFEL

Founded in April 2000, for the past 14 years A.N.D.E.S. has been offering innovative solutions aimed at providing healthy, affordable food to vulnerable people who receive food aid.

A.N.D.E.S. makes available in grocery stores affordable quality foods, in particular fresh fruit and vegetables from its assisted employment schemes. It also sets up support initiatives such as cookery workshops and tasting sessions.

As the national network for social and solidarity grocery stores, the purpose of A.N.D.E.S. is to federate and advise these bodies and support both their development and sustainability. The principle by which these stores operate is to combat exclusion without encouraging reliance on charity, respectful of people’s liberty and promoting their long-term integration into the job market.

A.N.D.E.S. is one of France’s major food aid networks. It supports the development of socially responsible grocery stores, charitable associations operating as self-service stores offering everyday products to vulnerable people at 20% of the usual price. The network currently has 280 members.

It is within this context that the range of initiatives being implemented by A.N.D.E.S. requires a supply of fresh, quality produce for its network of stores.

Key figures for its partnership with medFEL

  • Almost 9 tons of fruit and vegetables left over from the trade fair were donated to food aid these last 5 editions
  • These were allocated to around fifty associations and charitable bodies: social and solidarity stores, but also major national networks (Secours Populaire and Restos du Cœur movements, etc.) and charitable associations (Secours Catholique, EMMAUS and other independent charities)
  • Around ten employees from an assisted employment scheme were hired for the task,
  • An opportunity to raise the profile both of A.N.D.E.S. and their employment scheme “LA CISTELLA de Marianne.”
